About me.
When people meet me and hear what I do, they assume I must have always been confident and self-assured. Well, I am now, but that hasn’t always been the case. Growing up in a very small family, with a mother who struggled with her mental health, the very beginnings of how I shaped my sense of self were distorted. My needs weren’t met, and being constantly exposed to dysfunctional relationships led me to believe I wasn’t worthy and I wasn’t wanted. Those core beliefs left me with low self-esteem and made it hard to show up in the world. I longed to fit in and ended up around peer groups and in relationships that mirrored the chaos I was used to. I was purely existing. I didn’t dare to dream of a future. I didn’t even know what my dreams were.
Over many years, through experiences that pushed me to my limits, my mental health eventually reached breaking point. I became so anxious I could hardly function. That’s when therapy entered my life. Through my therapist, I started to process the past, make sense of it, and actually get to know myself. As my self awareness grew, I could start thinking about what I wanted. I was stuck behind versions of myself I’d created to survive. I remember my therapist asking if I was creative, I laughed, “absolutely not!” My belief was untrue, I begin to connect with my creative part and it one of the best parts of me, I love it!
One thing I always knew about myself is that I loved helping others. I’d always been good at it, so I trained as a psychotherapist. The years of training were intense and sometimes nearly broke me, but I wouldn’t change a thing, it taught me the real meaning of resilience. If I can do extremely hard things, others can too.
For nearly a decade now, my work in performance psychology and psychotherapy has brought me alongside some amazing people. And one thing remains the same: everyone, no matter how successful, has fears, triggers and self-doubt. Since I unlocked my own potential, I’ve learned to trust myself, even when I make mistakes, I know I can handle it and go again. That’s what this is all about: facing yourself, understanding your patterns, and learning what you’re capable of…then we go smash through that glass ceiling!
